Quality is our stamp, variety our richness
To enjoy the gastronomy in Ponferrada is to enter in a world of flavours, textures and pleasures...
The climate in El Bierzo provide the area with rich earth, in which products such as the pippin apple, the conference pear, pepper of El Bierzo, cherries and morello cherries grow, and wines with Designation of Origin EL Bierzo are produced.
The natural environment with its chestnut trees and walnut trees provide us with a very tasty honey, chestnuts and walnuts.
The cooking in El Bierzo has products of first quality, game meat, pork and veal meat.
Handmade goat cheese roll from Ambasmestas (2nd prize goat cheese category of the second edition of the contest Gourtmetquesos 2004), fire water and liquors, the traditional lemonade, spices as paprika, or the trout of its rivers.
But the most famous of all is El Botillo of El Bierzo, a unique meat, of an unmistakable flavour.
Due to the Galician influence, besides the typical cooking, specialities such as octopus or cod, are also some of our typical dishes.
In Ponferrada, and in el Bierzo in general, there is traditional cooking but also innovative, enriched with products from nearby areas, such as cecina of León (a cured meat), black pudding and Valdeón Cheese.
